Bike Walk Knoxville hosts Bike and Walk Summer Tours with Elected Officials allowing community members to tour different Knoxville neighborhoods either on bike or on foot, while having a relaxed conversation with elected officials from Knoxville City Council and Knox County Commission. The chosen routes for the rides and walks show both the good and bad walking and biking facilities. There is an emphasis on how our current and proposed ordinances and regulations address sidewalk and bike facility construction. The tours provide participants an opportunity to engage with their elected officials in a relaxed setting ending at a brewery or restaurant where you can enjoy a cold beer!
Thank you to our 2017 series sponsor, Coldwell Banker Wallace and Wallace. The tour kicks off on June 13th and will have 1 walk or ride each month through September. Each walk or ride will start at 6pm. No registration necessary!
June 13th: The tour kicks off with a bike ride starting at Public House, 212 W Magnolia Ave. The ride is 6 miles through East Knoxville to Chilhowee Park and back.
July 11th: Our first walk of the series starts at the Fountain City Art Center (117 Hotel Rd.) and finishes at Litton's for food, drinks, and conversation.
August 8th: Join us for a bike ride around West Knoxville. We will start and end at Bucket Head Tavern (8039 Ray Mears Blvd.). The ride will start at 6pm and will be approximately 6 miles. The ride will highlight bike facilities on Winston Rd., Jean Teague Greenway, and West Knoxville Bike Route. After the ride, please join us on the patio at Bucket Head for food, drinks, and conversation!
September 28th (revised date): Join us for our final walk of the summer! We will be starting at the south end of the Broadway Shopping Center at 6pm and walking south to the Hall of Fame interchange. From there we will head north to Cecil Ave., Woodland/Coker Ave., and back across Broadway near Fulton High School. We will also check out the segment of the First Creek Greenway that is under construction. The walk will be followed by Mexican food and conversation at La Herradura Food Truck on the west side of Broadway just north of Washington Pike. There are many discussion points and opportunities to provide assistance and safety to the residents who walk, use wheel chairs, and bicycles for transportation. We hope to see you there!
